Sacchi Patel at 2011 MLK Dinner - Unsung Hero Award

Congratulations to Sacchi Patel, a member of the 2009-10 and 2010-11 IGD teaching teams, on completing his Master’s degree in Cultural Foundations of Education. Sacchi’s Master’s exam focused on “Masculinities and Social Change” and included a proposal for a half-day primary prevention workshop for college students.

At the 2011 Rainbow Banquet Awards, the LGBT Resource Center honored the Intergroup Dialogue Program with a Foundation Award for University Department/Organization. “The Foundation Awards were established in 2003 to recognize individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, whose personal or professional lives have positively affected the LGBT community in a significant way” [...]

Tremayne Robertson, a former intergroup dialogue co-facilitator, was awarded the 2011 Joan Lukas Rothenberg Graduate Student Service Award for his extensive work in the field of social justice, particularly as it applies to gender equality. On Saturday, January 29, 2011, four representatives of the Intergroup Dialogue Program (IGD) worked with the Matilda Josyln Gage Foundation to foster three dialogue circles. During the Spring 2010 semester, Alexander R. Vessels and Kenny Hernandez, two former IGD students, received the Irma Almirall-Padamsee La Fuerza Community Enhancement Award. This award is given to “exemplary individuals for their outstanding contributions and commitment to diversity.” Congratulations on the honor of this award, Alexander and Kenny!

Dr. Gretchen Lopez and Crista Gray applied for and received the Chancellor’s Feinstone Grants for Multicultural Initiatives in December 2009.
